PARALLAX, Session 0: Main character creation

This log entry marks the beginning of a new solo campaign for Delta Green by Arc Dream Publishing.

Delta Green is by far my favorite RPG setting and I presonally consider Impossible Landscapes to be the best RPG campaign ever written. You have been warned 😄

I will be using the solo rules from Mythic Game Master Emulator 2nd edition, plus random tables from other soruces like Rogue Handler and The Book of Random Tables: Eldritch. Inspiration for this came from Solum Protocol, which makes for a GREAT delta green solo play.

As always, i'll be using a self-hosted instance of Foundry VTT to run my sessions.

For this campaign my main character will be Lawrence Bartolini, a direct descendant of Lorenzo Bartolini, the protagonist of my other ongoing Call of Cthulhu campaign A study in dust and stone. I feel this could lead to some interesting developments across both campaigns.

Lawrence is a 49-year-old medical examiner living in New Orleans.
He has seen 25 years of gunshot wounds, drownings in the Bayou, and drug overdoses. He thinks he’s seen the worst of humanity. He’s meticulous, perhaps a bit "fussy" about his workspace, and relies on the Scientific Method as his shield against the grim nature of his job.

He pushes his glasses up his nose when he’s nervous or when he’s about to deliver news a family doesn't want to hear.

The beard is a sign of his discipline; even in the humidity of NOLA, not a hair is out of place. It’s the one thing he can control.

He collects rare medical books.

Unknown to him, his grandfather Lorenzo was aware of the unnatural and fought several battles against its forces. Delta Green is aware of this legacy and is scouting Lawrence as a potential agent. I’m leaving this vague to allow room for hooks during the campaign.

Lawrence is not an agent yet; the first adventure will be his "awakening" to the true nature of the universe. I plan for this first mystery to be a short introduction to the character and the Mythic rules (which I'm using for the first time, so expect mistakes).
This intro will feature Lawrence as a lone PC, but in later adventures, I plan to add at least one partner. Delta Green is a deadly system; a lone PC would not last long otherwise.

His skillset is pretty ordinary for a medical examiner, which is fine.

Lawrence has 3 bonds.

Sally Monaghan (Wife): A 45-year-old teacher of ancient history at LSU. She is Black, nerdy-looking, and wears dreadlocks. She loves Lawrence deeply and avoids asking for too many details about his work. They have been married for almost 20 years. Though they discovered she was infertile years ago, Lawrence was incredibly supportive, and their bond is strong.

Detective Jolene "Jo" Mouton (Colleague): Jo has complete professional trust in Lawrence; they have worked together on countless cases. That trust has extended outside of work; they are frequent drinking buddies, and Jo often comes over for dinner (Sally loves her, too).

Akira (The Cat): A 4-year-old Russian Blue. Since Lawrence and Sally do not have children, they pour all their love into the "little pest," who returns it in earnest (when he feels like it). Note: Akira is a real-world cat belonging to a close friend!

I feel it will be better to add Lawrence's motivations during the introductory adventure as more details develop.
